The Westport Village Society is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation organized in 1992 to preserve and interpret the environment surrounding the village of Westport, California and to support local charitable and educational projects. Members and the interested public are always invited to attend WVS meetings. Please refer to the meetings page for more information. Please consider joining and donating to support our valuable work. If you want to get involved with our activities and projects, contact our email at WVS.
Our goals and purposes include land preservation, community benefit projects, and the encouragement of sound public and private conservation practices through interpretation and advocacy. We recently adopted a Board Manual to guide the operation of the WVS. It contains the organization's Bylaws and Articles of Incorporation, among other useful information. We operate in accordance with the Land Trust Alliance Standards with a Board of 7 Directors elected by our Members.
WVS acquired the nine acre headlands property and developed public coastal access improvements that include a trail to an overlook accessible by disabled persons; an informal trail system with a foot bridge over a seasonal stream; and a stairway that can be used to access Eddie White Beach for recreation and fishing. The headlands acquisition and public access improvements on that property were generously supported by three grants from the California Coastal Conservancy.
WVS also manages two coastal trail easements, publishes a monthly newsletter called the Westport Wave, is engaged in preserving and publishing local history, organizes nature walks, and provides support for Community Center activities and other local programs that benefit the community such as a community garden, mini grant program, and neighbor-to-neighbor assistance. WVS raises funds to further our mission through donations and regular fundraising events. All of the projects we pursue are made possible through the efforts of volunteers and tax-deductable donations. We welcome help and new ideas from members and the public.
For those have recently arrived in Westport or are considering relocating here, we offer a Welcome Packet with useful information about the local area. We've also recently created a Facebook group for the Westport Village Society. We encourage you to join the group and follow it. Posts about local events are welcome.
